EU adjusts nicosulfuron specification

The European Commission has reduced the minimum purity level of the EU-approved herbicide, nicosulfuron, from 930 g/kg to 910 g/kg. The change brings it in line with the UN FAO specification for the active ingredient. The former purity level was based on the specification submitted by the notifier, ISK Biosciences, for nicosulfuron's listing in Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) in 2008 ( Agrow No 540, p 13), the Commission notes. However, it is general practice to use FAO levels to allow other producers complying with these levels to market their products, it points out. The amendment to the ai's Annex I listing will apply from July 1st 2009.
