Australia stands by endosulfan status

The Australian regulatory authorities have no plans to re-evaluate the organochlorine insecticide, endosulfan, following its ban in New Zealand this month ( Agrow No 558, p 19). The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) stands by its 2005 review of endosulfan, which resulted in continued use with some restrictions ( Agrow No 476, p 16). The APVMA points to different use patterns for endosulfan in Australia and New Zealand and different regulatory approaches in the two countries.
