EFSA clears 59122/1507/NK603 maize

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has given safety clearance to genetically modified 59122/1507/NK603 maize for import, processing and use in food and feed. The EFSA opinion is a stage in the EU GMO registration process. The application was submitted by DuPont subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International. The maize combines two Dow AgroSciences/DuPont Herculex traits: corn rootworm ( Diabrotica spp)-resistant and glufosinate-tolerant 59122; and corn borer ( Ostrinia nubilalis)-resistant 1507. It also contains Monsanto's glyphosate-tolerant NK603 trait. Each of the three individual traits already hold EU approval for import and use in food and feed.
