EU agchem statistics proposals falter
The European Parliament has failed to adopt a full package of proposals to harmonise data collection systems for agrochemical statistics. At the Parliament's second reading in late April, MEPs adopted just one proposed amendment that clarified a definition, but failed to reach the qualified majority required to adopt the full text. The development will delay progress with the planned legislation. Representatives of EU Ministers and the Parliament had reached a compromise on the proposals in March ( Agrow No 565, p 13).
