Brazil extends import controls on codling moths
Brazil has extended the deadline for the IPM and risk mitigation system (SMR) for the control of codling moths ( Cydia pomonella) on pome fruit for export until October 19th. Inspection by Brazil’s plant health department will be carried out in Argentina along with the Argentine authorities. SMR was set up in 2007 to set standards on pome fruit imports into Brazil for that year, and this is the second extension following a similar move last year. The pest is under quarantine in Brazil. Any farm that is subject to the measures but does not comply would lose its licence to export for the current season.
