EU to extend approvals for three new ais
The EU Standing Committee for the Food Chain and Animal Health has agreed to an extension of existing three-year provisional approvals for: BASF's herbicide, topramezone; Dow AgroSciences' fumigant, sulfuryl fluoride; and the UK Central Science Laboratory's viral control agent, zucchini yellow mosaic virus – weak strain. The move is to allow more time for the EU registration process for the new active ingredients to be completed. The Committee's decision will go forward for confirmation by the European Commission, which normally allows member states to extend provisional approvals by up to two years. This is the second time that approvals have been extended for sulfuryl fluoride ( Agrow No 520, p 8).
