Monsanto expands historic research site

Monsanto has completed a $3 million expansion of its US research facility in Jerseyville, Illinois. The site has historic significance because the world’s first field trials of genetically modified crops were conducted there, Monsanto points out. The first triple-stack GM maize lines were also planted at the site. The latest crops being tested include dicamba-tolerant soybeans and glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans. Some 120,000 plot trials will be planted next year, of which 90,000 will be maize and 30,000 will be soybeans.
