Argentine exports remain high
Argentina almost doubled its pesticide exports to $587.8 million in the first ten months of 2008, the national newswire, Agrodiario, reports. It cites the market research group, IES. Rising international prices boosted the country’s receipts. The IES says that the rising export trends observed last year accelerated in the first half of 2008. Herbicide exports rose one and a half times, while fungicide exports were up by 80% and rodenticides by 72.9%. Total exports rose by 98%. The figures include fertilisers. Exports to Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay doubled, while sales to Australia rose eight-fold and to the US by 74.2%. Brazil accounted for almost half of exports in the period. The average price of herbicides for export jumped by 90.6%. Exports in the first seven months of the year amounted to $367 million ( Agrow No 555, p 21).
