German MRL violations down in 2007

Pesticide maximum residue limit (MRL) violations in food samples tested in Germany were 4.5% of the total samples in 2007, down from 5.3% in 2006 ( Agrow No 538, p 15), according to the latest figures from the federal office for consumer protection and food safety, the BVL. The office says that the fall in violations was partly due to the progressive harmonisation of MRLs at EU level ( Agrow No 551, p 14). It also cites improving agricultural practices and the quality of agrochemical products available as reasons.
