Dow gets Lat Am OKs for spinetoram
Dow AgroSciences has launched its insecticide, spinetoram, in Mexico as Exalt and Palgus for use on vegetables. Mexico granted registration for the active ingredient last year, the first Latin American country to do so. Spinetoram was approved in the US in 2007 following its joint review by US, Canadian and Mexican authorities ( Agrow No 530, p 22). Colombia became the first South American country to register the ai last month, Dow told Agrow. It intends to introduce the product there this year. Spinetoram is a second-generation spinosyn insecticide with a broader pest spectrum than Dow’s established insecticide, spinosad. Further registrations are expected in the first quarter of 2009 in five Central American countries. The ai’s first global registration was granted in New Zealand in 2007 ( Agrow No 526, p 21).
