USDA to OK Optimum GAT maize

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has proposed the deregulation of DuPont/ Pioneer Hi-Bred International’s dual herbicide-tolerant Optimum GAT (98140) maize. The maize expresses modified glyphosate acetyltransferase (GAT4621) and acetolactate synthase (ALS) proteins, which confer tolerance to glyphosate and ALS-inhibiting herbicides, such as sulfonylureas and imidazolinones. The maize is due to be introduced in 2010 ( Agrow No 546, p 4).
