Australasia OKs Optimum GAT soybeans
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has recommended the approval of food derived from DuPont seed subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International’s genetically modified herbicide-tolerant Optimum GAT soybeans. The DP-356043-5 line is tolerant to glyphosate and acetolactate synthase inhibitors such as sulfonylureas. Pioneer received US approval for Optimum GAT soybeans last year, with commercial introduction planned for 2011 ( Agrow No 548, p 22). The company has applied for approval for planting in Canada and for import approvals in Mexico and the EU. The FSANZ’s draft assessment report is open to public comment until May 1st.
