Syngenta gains US GM maize approval
Syngenta has received US EPA approval for its MIR162 event in genetically modified insect-resistant maize. The approval is seen as a key milestone in bringing a new mode of action to the market. The company plans to introduce MIR162 in combination with its existing GM maize lines in spring 2010, subject to the necessary approvals being in place. In addition to EPA approval, the event must be deregulated by the USDA and cleared by the Food and Drug Administration. The company is also seeking key import approvals.
