French industry refutes "black list" of ais

The French agrochemical industry association, the UIPP, has refuted the statement of MEP Hiltrud Breyer, rapporteur of the European Parliament's Environment Committee, about the existence of a “black list” of 22 active ingredients (see this issue). Ms Breyer has stated that the ais would be withdrawn from the market by the end of 2009. The UIPP labels the claim as “totally unfounded”, saying that it is impossible to state a date for a list of substances to be withdrawn from the market. It has also raised the issue of the lack of a precise definition for endocrine disruptors, and has requested the European Parliament to come up with scientific criteria suggested by independent experts without political interference.
