EU withdrawal dates set for more ais
The European Commission has instructed EU member states to withdraw approvals by: June 5th 2009 for the herbicide/desiccant, sulfuric acid; June 12th 2009 for the mammal repellent, bone oil, and the rodenticide, carbon monoxide; and June 15th 2009 for the bird repellent, anthraquinone. In each case, a further year will be allowed to use up existing stocks. The four active ingredients were in the fourth round of the EU review of existing ais but failed to gain re-registration ( Agrow No 556, p 14). The evaluations of bone oil, carbon monoxide and anthraquinone raised concerns over harmful effects on human health, the Commission says. For sulfuric acid, there were insufficient data to complete the assessment of consumer risk and operator exposure.
