Brazil grants methyl bromide emergency use

Brazil has authorised the emergency use of the ozone-depleting fumigant, methyl bromide. The Ministry of Agriculture approved its use against the cotton boll weevil ( Anthonomus grandis) on crops intended for export. Its use was authorised last month for one year until October 27th 2009, through Ministry regulation, ATO 42. Companies seeking to sell products based on the fumigant should apply to the Ministry’s co-ordinator general of pesticides. Applications are to have accompanying data, showing the product’s registration along with that of the company as a pesticide manufacturer in national states and the co-ordinator general’s register.
