Paraguay plants record soybean area
Paraguay has planted a record soybean area of over 2.6 million ha for the 2008/09 season, the Paraguayan cereal and oilseed crop exporters’ chamber, the CAPECO, says. The area is an 8.9% rise on that planted last year. The soybean area has been steadily rising for a decade and has doubled since 2001. Soybeans are by far the largest crop in Paraguay. The maize area in 2007/08 was just 450,000 ha, followed by that for wheat at 320,000 ha.
