South Korea may widen GMO labelling scope

The South Korean government is considering the introduction of mandatory labelling for all processed foods containing genetically modified organisms, reports the newspaper, The Korea Times. The action has been spurred by the decision of the country’s maize processing industry to import GM maize from the US for use in food ( Agrow No 539, p 21). The country enforced mandatory labelling for GM food in 2001 ( Agrow No 372, p 20) but producers of processed food have been exempt from the rule.
