Mexico law change to enable GMO trials
Mexico has amended a Biosafety Law article, removing a regime on the protection of the country’s native and wild maize varieties from potential contamination from genetically modified maize. Article 65 of last year’s legislation sought the creation of a “special regime for the protection of maize” ( Agrow No 540, p 9). It required the Ministries of the Environment and of Agriculture to issue legal provisions on the special regime. The amendment was made official through a Decree early this month.
