EU renews approval for GM T45 oilseed rape
The European Commission has renewed the EU approval for the import and use in food and feed of Bayer CropScience's genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant T45 oilseed rape. The renewal is valid for ten years from March 10th 2009. Bayer has phased out T45 but applied to renew the approval to cover the presence of accidental levels of the line in other oilseed rape supplies. The approval conditions require Bayer to monitor the presence of T45 in imports. The Commission was able to rubber-stamp its own proposals for renewal after EU Ministers and the EU GMO regulatory committee failed to agree on whether to accept or reject the approval ( Agrow No 560, p 7).
