Chile discusses agchem safety law
The Chilean government and the Senate are seeking a single regulation to “cover the different positions on the protection of agricultural and society [interests]” from the use of pesticides. A draft bill is at the second reading stage. Senator Juan Antonio Coloma insists that further work is required between government and Parliament. “This is a long-standing project and will have to be analysed by the Working Committee [Parliamentary committee],” he says. The Senate’s Agriculture Committee requested new regulations to replace the 1980 Act on pesticide use three years ago.
