EU sets up panel to study GMO evaluation
EU Environment Ministers have established a working group to review EU procedures for evaluating and approving genetically modified crops. The initiative is being led by France, which gained support for the review from Ministers at their meeting in June ( Agrow No 545, p 9). The working group is to deliver initial proposals for discussion by the Ministers at their October meeting, and then report back with final proposals by December. France is pursuing the issue as part of its six-month EU presidency, which it took over in July.
