GM oilseed rape decision left to EU Commission

EU Agriculture Ministers have failed to reach a qualified majority decision on whether to renew the EU approval for the import of Bayer CropScience's genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant T45 oilseed rape. The European Commission is now free to rubberstamp its own proposal to renew the approval ( Agrow No 550, p 12). Bayer has phased out T45 but applied to renew the approval to cover the import of accidental levels of the line in other oilseed rape supplies.
