Safe use of pesticides rare in Peru
Farmers in Peru have not improved their “responsible use of pesticides”, according to CropLife Latin America’s associate, the Brazilian agrochemical industry association, the ANDEF. It cites a recent study among 160 farmers and found that only 38% inspect their crops before applying products, while just over a third (35%) know how they should store pesticide products. Fewer than one in six can either understand the labelling on products (16%) or know about container triple-rinsing (14%). Almost three out of four (74%) wash their clothes after applying pesticides and 64% take a bath.
