EU Ministers adopt grapevine reforms
The EU Council of Ministers has formally adopted the European Commission's proposals to reform the EU grapevine sector. The deal follows agreement by EU Agriculture Ministers earlier this year ( Agrow No 535, p 8) and allows the Commission to achieve its aim to bring the reform into force on August 1st. The new system will initiate a three-year "grubbing-up" programme, which provides aid to growers willing to reduce their grapevine area. The aid is limited to a maximum area reduction of 15% in any member state.
