Brazil suspends agchem reassessments
Brazil has suspended “all administrative procedures in carrying out the toxicological re-evaluation [and] registration of [ten] pesticides and other products”. Resolution 84/08 of the national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, was issued in the national gazette, Diario Oficial, in November 2008. It suspends a resolution of earlier that year, which scheduled the re-assessment of 14 active ingredients ( Agrow No 539, p 18). The move followed a court injunction postponing the reassessments in July ( Agrow No 549, p 19). The Anvisa had previously said it would attempt to reverse the injunction as early as possible.
