EU mulls national decisions on GM crops

A call for EU member states to be given more power to decide on the use of genetically modified crops received support from some EU Agriculture Ministers at their March meeting, reports Brussels news service AgraFacts. The proposal, put forward by the Netherlands ( Agrow No 563, p 9), suggests that decisions on approving GM crops for import should remain at EU level, but that decisions on cultivation should be left to individual member states.
