BASF to invest in additional capacity
BASF is to invest more than €150 million ($236.3 million) over the next two years in additional agrochemical production capacity. The expansion project will increase capacity at its production facilities in Germany, France, Brazil and the US. The facilities will increase their production of: the fungicidal seed treatment, F500 (pyraclostrobin); the fungicide, boscalid; the insecticide, fipronil; and the herbicide, metazachlor. The company says that the majority of the new capacity will become available by 2010. The funds are in addition to the base investment of €90 million ($141.8 million) already earmarked for 2008, which includes production capacity expenditure for BASF’s unregistered broadleaf herbicide, Kixor (saflufenacil). BASF hopes to receive North American approvals for Kixor in 2010 ( Agrow No 537, p 21).
