US approval for BASF's Clearcast

BASF has received US approval for the aquatic herbicide, Clearcast (imazamox 120 g/litre). It controls a range of floating, emerged or shoreline weeds with minimal crop irrigation restrictions, BASF says. Clearcast is recommended for use at 16-64 fl oz/acre (0.1-0.5 litre/ha) for foliar sprays and 50-200 ppb for water-injected applications. The herbicide is “practically non-toxic” to birds, fish, algae and aquatic invertebrates, and it has a tolerance exemption for food residues, BASF notes. Imazamox was introduced for use on soybeans in the US in the late 1990s ( Agrow No 282, p 19).
