Kenya to market GM cotton in 2011
Genetically modified insect-resistant Bt cotton should be on the Kenyan market by 2011, the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications reports. It cites lead Bt cotton researcher at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute Dr Charles Waturu. He claims that cotton production in the country has been in freefall, due to disease and pests. Kenya approved its Biosafety Bill, earlier this year ( Agrow No 562, p 17).
