US registration decisions level off
The US EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) completed 1,677 registration actions under the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) in fiscal 2008. That represented a rise of just 3.5% over the 1,620 decisions in the year to September 30th 2007 ( Agrow No 539, p 16). After annual increases of 20% between fiscal 2005 and 2007, the modest rise last year indicates that applications have levelled off, the OPP reports. Only eight more applications were received in fiscal 2008 than in the previous year.
