Brazil dumped 71 kg of unfit agchems in 08
Brazil disposed of 70.9kg of unfit or obsolete pesticides in 2008, the pesticide container disposal organisation, the InpEV, says. Some 15 programmes collected and disposed of products from 19 collection points across the country. Sao Paulo state accounted for 42.3% of the products. Unfit products include those registered while in the process of adaptation to legislation, or with expired data. Obsolete pesticides include: old or untraceable products, the registrant, producer or seller of which cannot be identified or be held responsible; and products banned under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. The Brazilian co-operative organisation, the OCB, carried out the work in partnership with the InpEV, which mainly deals with empty containers.
