Brazil govt split on sulfuramid use

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture supports maintaining the approval for use of the insecticide, sulfuramid. It found opposition from the Ministry of the Environment during a public debate at the parliamentary agriculture committee on the use of the termiticide in baits against leafcutter ants ( Atta spp). The government is preparing to take its position on the potential banning of sulfuramid to the fourth meeting of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) this month, the committee says.
