EU Ministers to review GMO assessment
EU Environment Ministers have backed a call by France to review the EU registration system for genetically modified crops. France, which presented its proposals in March ( Agrow No 539, p 12), wants to bring more criteria into the risk assessment process and take greater consideration of member states' opinions. An initial discussion on the issue at the Ministers' June meeting agreed that France, which takes over the EU presidency in July, should ask experts to develop firm proposals on specific measures.
