Kureha developing rice biofungicide

Kureha is developing a biofungicide aimed at seed- and soil-borne diseases in rice seedlings being raised in transplanting boxes. The fungicide, code named KNB-422, is based on a fungus from the Talaromyces genus. It offers high efficacy via a range of application methods. Kureha has developed a granule form of the fungus that could be incorporated directly into the soil. In addition, the biofungicide could be applied to seed as a diluted suspension concentrate in the same way as for general seed treatment fungicides. The work is being carried out in a Japanese government-funded joint research project with Dr Tsutomu Arie of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
