EU project to prevent agchem pollution concludes

A three-year EU project to prevent pesticide run-off to water sources has successfully concluded, says the European Crop Protection Association (ECPA). The joint ECPA/European Commission project, Train the Operators to Prevent Pollution from Point Sources (TOPPS – Agrow No 491, p 8) trained over 4,500 farmers and advisers on handling, spraying and storing pesticides. Point sources generally result from the filling and cleaning of equipment on farm. A follow-up phase to the project will tackle diffuse sources from pesticide application.
