The US Chemical Safety Board (CSB) is to hold a public meeting in Institute, West Virginia next month to address the explosion and fire at Bayer CropScience’s pesticide plant last year. The incident involved a waste tank containing the insecticide, methomyl. The CSB will present preliminary findings on its investigation and hear public comments on the incident. Last month, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed fines totalling $143,000 and listed 13 “serious” citations following its investigation ( Agrow No 563, p 2).
