EFSA supports renewed EU approval of 1507 maize
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has supported the renewal of EU approval for feed products derived from DuPont/ Dow AgroSciences' genetically modified insect-resistant and glufosinate-tolerant 1507 maize. The companies submitted their renewal application in 2007 to comply with the implementation of new EU GMO registration regulations. The maize line, which is sold under the Herculex brand, was first approved in the EU in 2005 under an older EU registration procedure ( Agrow No 483, p 8). New data on the use of feed products derived from 1507 maize since 2005 have not raised any safety issues, the EFSA notes. Its opinion on the application will go forward to the European Commission for consideration.
