France undecided over Cruiser approval extension
The conditions have not been met for an approval extension for Syngenta's insecticidal seed treatment, Cruiser (thiamethoxam), says the French Minister for Agriculture, Michel Barnier. France gave a six-month approval extension for the product in December, which lapsed on May 15th ( Agrow No 559, p 10). It was granted for the use of Cruiser as a seed treatment against wireworms ( Agriotes spp) for the 2009 maize sowing season, under “strictly regulated” conditions of manufacture and use. Use was to be monitored in six regions within the country because of concerns over potential impacts on bees. The results of the monitoring are not yet comprehensive enough for an approval decision to be taken, the Minister says.
