Brazil seizes 8 tonnes illegal agchems
Brazilian police have seized over 8 tonnes of banned pesticides in the first half of 2009, the Brazilian agrochemical industry trade association, the Sindag, says. The accumulated volume of agrochemicals apprehended by the authorities in the country over the past 12 months has surpassed 40 tonnes, while the figure since the industry’s national campaign began in 2001 has almost reached 360 tonnes. Some 300 tonnes have been incinerated, the association adds. The figures come as the industry is to step up its information campaign against the purchase and use of such pesticides.
