Chinese agchem factory shut down
Chinese agrochemical company Chongqing Pesticide Chemical's factory in the city of Chongqing has been shut down by the government, Chinese media report. The factory had been in operation for over 50 years. The government required the factory to cease operations by the end of June, revealed the municipal economy and information committees. The authorities had received repeated complaints about the pollution generated by the factory. Chongqing Pesticide Chemical will open a new factory in the city's Changshou chemical industrial park by October this year. It will mainly manufacture “high-efficacy, low-toxicity” pesticides, while production of relatively higher toxicity pesticides such as the insecticide, omethoate, will cease, media reports note.
