EPA issues phosmet controls
The US EPA has finalised its risk mitigation measures for nine uses of the organophosphate insecticide, phosmet, following proposals last year (Agrow No 498, p 12). The Agency was required to make regulatory decisions on these uses following the settlement of a lawsuit by farm workers and public interest groups over the 2001 re-registration eligibility decision. The EPA requires the restricted entry intervals (REIs) for most of the nine crops to be extended from three days to seven days. The REI for blueberries has been kept at 24 hours, but harvesting is prohibited for three days after treatment. The grapevine REI remains unchanged at 14 days.
