Support for Indian GMO (genetically modified organism) trials

Some 300 scientists worldwide have signed a petition urging the Indian Supreme Court to allow field trials of genetically modified crops to continue. The move coincides with a Court hearing on a public interest lawsuit by environmental activists seeking a ban on all GM crop trials in India. Last September, the Court ordered the Indian authorities to halt temporarily all approvals for new GM crops and field trials while it considered evidence in the case (Agrow No 505, p 20).
