Ecuador not applying harmonised rules

Ecuador continues to stall on implementing harmonised pesticide registration regulations among the countries of the Andean community in South America, national media report. That is despite an obligation to implement them under Decision 684 that was issued in the official gazette of the customs union last year. The regulations were agreed in 1998 among Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia as Decision 436 ( Agrow No 422, p 21). Reports cite CropLife Ecuador, which reckons only 100 out of 1,700 pesticides authorised in Ecuador fulfill the harmonised rules.
