Spain impounds illegal agchems
Spanish police confiscated 2.2 tonnes of illegal pesticides and arrested 11 people in November and December last year. The arrested people were charged with crimes against public health and intellectual property, the national police service's environment protection law enforcement agency, the Seprona, says. It carried out the arrests in the south-west region, Almeria, as part of the "Don Limpio" (Sir Clean) campaign. The unregistered pesticide, isofenphos-methyl, was found in several consignments of peppers from the region last season (Agrow No 530, p 14). Several EU countries alerted authorities of its presence.
