MEPs support new EU PIC rules

The European Parliament has approved proposals for renewing EU rules on the export of dangerous chemicals, including some pesticides, covered by the Rotterdam Convention on prior informed consent (PIC). The PIC procedure requires importing countries to give their consent before exports of certain pesticides can proceed. While largely supporting the European Commission's proposals, MEPs voted through amendments that would tighten controls on EU exports and extend the number of pesticides subject to the measures.
