Indian crop sowings progress

Planting of rabi (winter) crops in India is progressing well, says the Ministry of Agriculture. By the end of January, wheat was sown on 27.5 million ha, compared with 28.1 million ha at the same time last year. Sowings have thus already reached the government expectations for wheat sowing in 2007-08 at 27.5 million ha, though they may not be able to touch last year's record of 28 million ha (Agrow No 535 p 21).
