Portugal GMOs cut insecticide use

More then eight out of ten of Portugal's genetically modified maize farmers use fewer insecticide applications against European corn borers (Ostrinia nubilalis) than previously when growing non-GM maize. A study from the Ministry of Agriculture's director general of rural development, the DGADR, found that 86% of such farmers made fewer applications. Some 76% cited control of the pest as the main motive for planting GM maize.
