Monsanto defends MON810 in France
Monsanto has slammed the French government's decision to ban its genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize as "baseless". Its defence came in an open letter to the Ministry of Agriculture. France formally suspended GM crops at the end of last year (Agrow No 534, p 10) and formed a new authority on GM crops, the Comite de prefiguration. The authority has issued the latest recommendations to ban MON810, the only GM crop that was approved for cultivation in the country (Agrow No 525, p 12).
