China's Sichuan province founds glyphosate research centre
A provincial glyphosate engineering technology research centre has been founded in Leshan, Sichuan province, China under the auspices of the Sichuan Science and Technology Department, municipal authorities report. The centre has been established with the support of Chinese agrochemical company Fuhua Tongda Agricultural Chemicals Science and Technology, Sichuan University and Sichuan Agricultural University. It will benefit research into cleaner manufacturing techniques for the herbicide, by industrialising improved production technologies. Sichuan province produces 30,000 tonnes of glyphosate a year, and local company Sichuan Huaying is building a 10,000 tonnes/year glyphosate plant, due for completion in October ( Agrow No 563, p 4).
